Corn Islands Legend: The Four Headless Pirates of Woula Point

Woula Point, in Brig Bay, is known by many as a place of ghost stories and pirate tales. Locals say strange things happen there—especially near the shore.

Some claim to have seen four headless men sitting by the water, playing cards around a table with gold coins piled in the centre. They don’t speak, they just play—again and again—under the moonlight.

People say these are the spirits of pirates, sailors from great ships, who were sacrificed to guard treasure buried on that side of the island. Long ago, when the pirates hid their gold, they would behead one of their crew—or someone they had captured—and bury the skull with the riches to protect it.

Over the years, a few brave or foolish souls have tried to steal the coins. Some challenged the pirates to a game of poker. Others tried sneaking up while they played. But the legend says there's only one way to win the treasure: you must either toss a real card onto their table, or beat them at their own game.

Few have dared. None are known to have succeeded.
