About The Corn Islands Virtual Library

The Corn Islands Virtual Library is a non-profit community project that is dedicated to preserving and promoting the heritage of the Corn Islands of Caribbean Nicaragua through research, compilation of records and communication materials.

It was founded on 19 August 2021 but officially launched on the web and across all social media platforms on 1 May 2023. The project is funded by STS Initiative, a platform that supports projects related to culture, education, and youth welfare.

The primary goal of this initiative is to meet academic needs and preserve the historical, cultural, visual, and audiovisual patrimony of both Great Corn Island and Little Corn Island. The available information results from contributions from local historians, independent research by the library team, and support provided by other academics and cultural enthusiasts.

Most of the knowledge on the website is the consequence of over ten years of researching, archiving documents, and gathering oral accounts to preserve the identity of the Corn Islands, which eventually led to the establishment of the online library project.
