Copyright and Usage Policy

The Corn Islands Virtual Library (the "Library" or “Virtual Library”) hosts a variety of materials that may be protected under national and international copyright laws. These resources are made available exclusively for educational, academic, and research purposes.

The Library’s digital collection comprises both original and third-party content. Materials that are created, digitised, or developed by The Corn Islands Virtual Library—such as photographs, oral histories, local documents, and curated digital exhibits—are considered the intellectual property of the Library unless otherwise stated.

The Library does not claim ownership of third-party materials such as books, legal texts, magazines, academic articles, and other externally sourced content featured on its website. These works remain the property of their respective authors, publishers, or institutions. They are shared under explicit permission, through licensing agreements, or because they are in the public domain. All non-Library-owned materials are clearly attributed to their original creators, with proper identification of the author or source and the date of publication.

The Corn Islands Virtual Library is committed to respecting the intellectual property rights of others and complies fully with applicable copyright laws. If you believe any content hosted by the Library infringes upon your rights, please contact us immediately. Upon verification, the content will be removed as quickly as possible.

Use of any materials from the Library for commercial purposes is strictly prohibited. The Library assumes no responsibility for copyright or intellectual property violations that may arise from unauthorised use of its content.

By accessing the Library’s website, you agree to use its content solely for non-commercial, educational, and research purposes. You also agree to comply with all applicable copyright and intellectual property regulations.

Materials owned by the Library may only be used for non-commercial purposes with explicit written permission. When such materials are used, attribution must be clearly provided using the following statement:

“Used with permission of The Corn Islands Virtual Library”, followed by the URL or title of the content.

For academic work, materials should be properly cited using a recognised citation style such as APA, Harvard, or Chicago, among others. For example:
