Corn Islands Legend: The Golden Sword
Legends say that there was a pirate by the name of Gil Patrick Quinn, who was a terror and evil man, who used to live on the island. He used to live on the top of Quin Hill, from where he used to observe all vessels that would approach Great Corn Island.
Legend has it that he had a gold sword that he used to mutilate and kill his victims. Everyone was afraid of him because he was a terrible person.
He once cut a slave man's head clean off his body and left him to bleed until he died.
After pirate Quinn died, his sword was buried with him on Quinn Hill, in front of the Baptist Church. Since his burial, people have witnessed spooky things near the site where his body lies.
Voices, shadows and strange sounds are some of the things people would witness when passing this sector of Quinn Hill.
The haunting was so much that locals had to dig up his body along with his sword and bury it somewhere else. It is said that people took his remains to Little Hill, where supposedly they remain to this day.
Others believe that his sword was stolen from this spot and taken off the island. Since then, the haunting stopped.
