5th Anniversary of The Corn Islands Virtual Library Project
The Corn Islands Virtual Library project was founded five years ago today, on 19 August 2021.
With the purpose of safeguarding and promoting the culture, traditions, and history of the Corn Islands in Caribbean Nicaragua, the project was created in 2021. Its main website was launched in 2023, followed by the Virtual Museum in 2025.
The contributions of the islands’ community, along with the collaboration of local historians, scholars, friends, and institutions, have been essential to the work we continue to do for the Corn Islands.
Knowing where we come from is essential to knowing who we are and where we are going. That is why we believe in gathering and preserving every piece, every story, and every fragment of what makes us who we are as Corn Islanders.
In a world of rapid technological advancement, digitizing our heritage has become increasingly important, not only as a way of preserving our history and culture, but also as a means of providing students, teachers, and the wider community with access to information and resources about our islands.
Our gratitude goes to everyone who has shared, contributed, supported, and been part of this journey. This work is for the people of the Corn Islands and for present and future generations.
Here’s to many more years of preserving our roots and telling our stories.
