Great Corn Island


Jackson Swamp

Covering an area of 4.15 hectares, Jackson Swamp is located at kilometre 1 of the island, in the North End neighbourhood, next to the former Beach View Hotel. The most common vegetation includes white mangroves, Montrichardia, and grasses. Its wildlife consists of land turtles, blue crabs, iguanas, boas, pigeons, wild ducks, and herons.

North End Swamp

Located in the North End neighbourhood next to the Adventist Church, this swamp covers 4.45 hectares. It is almost completely enclosed by vegetation such as white mangroves, beach calabash, and white lilies, and has great potential for water collection. Blue crabs are the most commonly observed fauna.


Alligator Pond Swamp

With an area of 5.81 hectares, Alligator Pond Swamp is located in the Sally Peachie neighbourhood, next to the Tabernacle Church. The swamp features abundant vegetation, including white mangroves, wild grapes, wild cotton, and common water hyacinths. Blue crabs are the predominant species found here.

Rocky Point Swamp

This swamp covers 6.46 hectares and is situated in the Sally Peachie neighbourhood, near the former Mama Lola’s Restaurant. It has high landscape value, with rich vegetation including white and red mangroves, beach grapes, cocoplums, Montrichardia, and wild cotton.

Shallow Water Swamp

Covering an area of 10.02 hectares, Shallow Water Swamp is located in the South End neighbourhood. It has extensive vegetation composed of white mangroves and buttonwoods, with patches of red and black mangroves, and the presence of wild grapes and annona. The fauna includes tarpon, snook, blue crabs, land turtles, iguanas, and boas.

Long Bay Swamp No. 1

Located in the South End neighbourhood, next to Island Style Bar, this swamp covers 6.37 hectares. Its vegetation includes beach calabash, beach grapes, Montrichardia, white lilies, and cocoplums. Common fauna includes land turtles, iguanas, pigeons, blue crabs, and boas.

Long Bay Swamp No. 2

With an area of 2.70 hectares, this swamp is also located in the South End neighbourhood, in the Long Bay sector. The plant species include gamalotes, lilies, white mangroves, moco-moco, Sangregado, heliconias, coyolitos, and Montrichardia. Among the fauna are land turtles, blue crabs, herons, and boas.

South West Bay Swamp

The largest swamp on the island, South West Bay Swamp spans 66.48 hectares. It is located in the Brig Bay neighbourhood, South West Bay sector, next to Hotel Martha Bed & Breakfast. Its abundant vegetation includes white mangroves, beach calabash, heliconias, white lilies, and almond trees. The swamp has great potential for ecotourism and water harvesting. Common species include blue crabs, snook, ducks, herons, and doves.

Woula Point Swamp

Woula Point Swamp covers 6.98 hectares and is located in the Brig Bay neighbourhood, Woula Point sector. It supports diverse fauna such as land turtles, snook, blue and red crabs, herons, boas, and ducks. Its vegetation includes ferns, white mangroves, Montrichardia, beach grapes, white lilies, and Sangregado.

Welcome Swamp

This 7.65-hectare swamp extends through the Brig Bay neighbourhood, from Paraiso Hotel to the home of Mr. Jorge Morgan. Vegetation includes mangroves, palm trees, yolillos, heliconias, coconuts, and Sangregado. The fauna includes turtles, herons, crabs, panchones, bald-tailed foxes, wild ducks, and iguanas.

Coe-Crowdell Swamp

Located along the main street of Brig Bay, Coe-Crowdell Swamp covers 4.15 hectares. It holds great potential for ecotourism, hiking, recreation, landscaping, and biodiversity appreciation. Its flora includes Sangregado, ferns, grasses, annona, Montrichardia, and water lettuce.

Moskito Point Swamp

With an area of 2.72 hectares, this swamp is located in Brig Bay, Sector 1, near the former Panorama Hotel. Its vegetation is composed mainly of white mangroves, coconut palms, white lilies, and grasses. Among the fauna are land turtles, blue crabs, grey and white herons, pigeons, and green iguanas.

Little Corn Island

Cocal Swamp

Cocal Swamp, the largest on Little Corn Island, spans 24.61 hectares and is located on the island’s northwest side. It has high potential for ecotourism and hiking. Its rich biodiversity includes white mangroves, buttonwoods, beach calabash, wild cotton, cocoplums, red mangroves, and Montrichardia. Common fauna includes wild ducks, herons, iguanas, and land turtles.

Victo Swamp

This 0.36-hectare swamp is located southeast of Little Corn Island, next to the school of the same name. Vegetation includes red mangroves, patches of buttonwood, white mangroves, and coconut palms. The predominant fauna species is the blue crab.

Sofía Swamp

Sofía Swamp covers 0.95 hectares and is located on the north side of the island. It contains vegetation such as buttonwood and white mangroves.

Blaze Swamp

Located northeast of Little Corn Island, Blaze Swamp covers 2.20 hectares. It features abundant mangrove vegetation, and its fauna includes herons, ducks, land turtles, and iguanas.
